You won’t always be able to remove all distractions for your child. Instead, you can help teach them how to deal with them:
Revising in front of the television is never a good idea – finding the right environment is crucial.
If they are having problems focusing, encourage them to take a short break.
Clarity and a clear mind must surely help your child achieve the best results and focus on the task in hand. With that in mind, we all know kids like apps on their phone; one to try is headspace. Meditation is something that can be enjoyed together, while teaching them a valuable skill, not only to help them through an exam, but also for life.
Practising a few yoga poses or deep breathing can improve cognitive function. If all else fails, practising ‘down dog’ in your kitchen could instigate a few giggles.
Lack of focus could be caused by lack of engagement with the topic. Instead, try choosing a book on a topic they are more interested in.
Create a calm and quiet atmosphere when they are revising dim the lights, light some candles and add a few drops of essential oils to an aromatherapy oils diffuser. The benefits of essential oils are well proven. Lavender, bergamot and ylang, ylang are popular choices.
